Jamesfield Newsletter Summer 2008 Down on the Farm............ July has made a wet and cold start, not as bad as last year but more rain than we would like, just like your garden no doubt weeds just seem to have grown and grown. Wet weather makes weed control more difficult but not wishing to earn farmers a reputation for moaning I have to say overall crops and stock are looking well despite the weeds. We are now looking forward to an Indian summer with a good and easy harvest to make up for the wet start. Up at the centre things are really picking up too, the Restaurant and Farm shop are getting busier, Jamesfield's new potatoes are now for sale, New Season Spring Lamb has just arrived as well as locally produced Strawberries which seem to be very popular. Open Day The Open day which was held on the 15th June was a huge success with nearly 1000 people attending. It gave customers not only an insight into how their food is produced (and we had a lot of well informed people asking searching questions) but a chance to explore the land in which it grows on. To me the most important aspect at Jamesfield is its sustainability which is much more relevant now than 20 years ago. We will be having another Open day in autumn (date to be decided) to show customers how crops have preformed. We can only hope that the weather is as kind to us as it was on the 15th June. For those of you that are in commuting distance we look forward to seeing you and for those who cant make it we will give you a report in our next autumn newsletter. Butchery We have a new butchery manager Grant Robertson who comes with a huge amount of experience, he has great new ideas and pride in his presentation combined with real quality product knowledge and will be a big asset to the Organic Centre. We look forward to hearing your comments. Although this is a family business with increasing sales it has made it more difficult to give our customers a more personal service. With this in mind we have recruited skilled staff to make sure that the best quality Organic Meat available receives the best service and attention to match. Jamesfield Farm is 300 acres sprawled along the banks of the River Earn on the Perthshire and Fife border. I am Ian Miller, and along with my brother Roy, we own and manage the farm.
On the farm, we rear our own animals and grow our own vegetables. We also have an onsite butchery, bakery, restauraunt and shop. Please have a look at our products on the left hand side using the categories. We offer a next day home mail order delivery service of Organic meat (and Free Range meat) to most areas of the mainland UK. We are proud of the quality and taste of our organic meat. You order organic meat on-line or by mail order and we are confident you’ll enjoy all of our products.
